FAQ

1:1 FAA Medical Nutrition Coaching and Counseling

Airline transport pilots who fly for commercial carriers and air traffic controllers.
In order to qualify for this service, you must be an airline transport pilot or air traffic controller with a deferred FAA Medical Certificate, or you must be at risk of failing the FAA Medical Exam due to blood pressure, blood sugar, or elevated cholesterol (which will cause high blood pressure). Individual coaching is not available for weight loss, although weight loss may occur, if needed, as part of our work together.

In order to ensure your best chance of success, you’ll need a 3-month minimum commitment. You’ll receive:

  • 3 hours of individualized private virtual video call meetings
  • Voice and text support with all messages answered in 24 hours or less
  • Password-protected individual portal with:
    • Food and fluid tracking
    • Personal workbook that includes hydration, macronutrient calculations, food lists, and more
    • Video education library
    • Secure voice and text messaging
    • Ability to self schedule meetings
  • Expert resolution of your condition through coaching when you make the necessary changes
My goal is to coach you directly on foods that 1) will help reverse your condition, and 2) you enjoy. I want to provide you with abundant options that fit your aviation lifestyle and that you can apply flexibly wherever you go. Therefore, I don’t normally provide meal plans as part of 1:1 coaching. If you’re stuck, I will draft individualized meal ideas as examples for you to learn how to improve your nutrition. You can also sign up for my FAA Focused Meal Plans or download one of my ebook meal guides for additional support.
My food philosophy can be described as “all foods fit.” If you drink soda or have a sweet tooth, we work around how to fit in what you enjoy. Deprivation does not work well long term and, therefore, I meet you where you are in your journey. While receiving a deferred FAA medical is scary, one food did not get you where you currently are! It’s been weeks, months, and years of choices that caused your condition. I will teach you how to enjoy life and never fear your FAA medical again.
I do not offer refunds. If you’ve done the work I provided to you, you should see results. If it takes longer than 3 months, I offer reduced priced coaching after the first 3 months. Many clients stay with me more than 3 months to be assured they have the process perfected.

Lab Testing

Lab testing is the only certain way to know your current health status prior to your FAA medical exam. Every month, I receive calls from numerous pilots who failed their FAA Medical Exam due to high blood sugar or blood pressure that they weren’t aware had crossed the strict FAA limits.

Without knowing blood sugar and cholesterol numbers, improving your health is a guessing game. Therefore, I require at minimum an A1c and Total Lipid Panel as part of my FAA Medical Certificate Lab Testing. (Your cholesterol can contribute to high blood pressure.) I offer an easy at home testing kit if you would rather avoid needles and leaving your home.

For a more complete picture of your health, you can also choose my Comprehensive Aviation Lab Testing package, which includes additional tests for inflammation, nutrition status and organ function. This does require a blood draw and external appointment ordered by me.

In addition, you will receive the following:

  • One initial 30-minute consult to walk you through the lab testing process
  • One 30-minute results consult, where we will review your tests and discuss next steps
  • Password protected individual portal with:
    • Workbook and instructions on how to schedule and prepare for testing
    • Ability to self schedule meetings
    • Secure voice and text messaging with all messages answered in 24 hours or less
  • Offer for 1:1 coaching for expert resolution of any discovered conditions (1:1 coaching is an additional price)

Your health can turn on a dime. Over the years, I have experienced very sad stories of pilots getting close to retirement and finding out they have a major health concern. Why not know exactly how your body is performing? In order to understand where your health is at and what changes are needed to secure your future, I recommend that all airline transport pilots and air traffic controllers schedule annual tests for blood sugar, cholesterol, liver and kidney function, oxygen and iron status, immune system function, and hydration status.

With convenient and confidential at-home testing kits, you can test:

  • CRP (C Reactive Protein)
  • Total Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • LDL
  • HDL
  • A1C
  • Ferritin
  • Vitamin D
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
  • Prostate Antigen (men)
  • Testosterone (men)

You’ll also receive the same consultation and review as outlined in “What does Lab Testing include?”If what you’re looking for isn’t included in my at-home testing packages, there are other options. Please contact Jill directly at ji**@av***************.com to discuss.
